Has counting days between two dates always worked the same way?
Not quite — anyone calculating a date difference that spans October 1582 in real historical records would need to account for ten days that, officially, never happened. When Pope Gregory XIII reformed the calendar that year to correct centuries of drift in the older Julian calendar, October 4 was immediately followed by October 15 across Catholic Europe — the ten days in between were simply skipped to realign the calendar with the seasons.
