AI Email Writer turns a few bullet points into a complete, well-structured email in the tone you choose, which is useful for turning quick notes into something ready to send without starting from a blank page.
What is an AI email writer, and how do you actually use it?
It's a tool that turns a short description or a few key points into a clear, complete email draft. Describe the purpose, key details, recipient and desired tone, and it turns that into a full draft; it works just as well on an email you've already written, tightening or restyling it — making it clearer, shorter, more professional or friendlier — while keeping your original message intact.
Can AI write in a specific tone, and can it actually make an email shorter?
Yes to both. Specify the tone you want — formal, professional, friendly or persuasive — and the draft matches it; it can also trim unnecessary wording from a longer email while keeping the important information intact, useful when a draft has grown wordier than it needs to be.
Can AI write a business, job application or follow-up email — and should you always review it before sending?
Yes across the board — describe the purpose (a request, a follow-up, an introduction, a job application) along with the relevant details, and the draft matches that specific context, including a concise follow-up if you provide the context of an earlier exchange and what you want to accomplish next. Always review an AI-generated email before sending it, though: check names, dates and facts, and confirm the tone actually fits the situation, since the draft is a genuinely useful starting point, not a final check on accuracy.
Who actually decided email should look like 'name@somewhere' in the first place?
One engineer, working mostly alone, in 1971. Ray Tomlinson, an engineer at BBN Technologies working on the U.S. Defense Department's early ARPANET, sent what's generally regarded as the first network email on October 29, 1971 — a test message to himself, reportedly just the string "QWERTYUIOP," sent from one computer to another in the same room purely to check whether his own software worked. The detail that's lasted more than half a century is the format he invented to make it possible: Tomlinson needed a character to separate a person's name from the computer they were using, one that would never plausibly appear in someone's actual name, and picked the @ symbol simply because it was the one obscure punctuation mark sitting unused on his keyboard. Every email address written since — including whatever address an AI-drafted email you write today gets sent to — still follows that essentially arbitrary choice from a solo software test more than fifty years ago.
